Dec 16 - 19

In science we learnt about the water cycle. Water vapor in the air cools and becomes water droplets (condensation). Rain or snow (precipitation) falls to the earth. The sun warms up the water in lakes and streams to create water vapor (evaporation).
We also studied for our Liquids Unit test with a very animated game of Jeopardy!

In word work we challenged ourselves to create at many words as you could using adjoining letters. Work with your child to see how many you can create together.

Dec 9 - 13

In science we compared how different liquids flow. We discovered the thicker (more dense) the liquid the slower it moved or poured.

I can recognize & describe different liquids flow.
I can compare water with one or more other liquids. Comparisons may be based on characteristics, such as colour, ease of flow, tendency of drops to form a ball shape (bead), or if it is translucent, transparent or opaque.

In math we create the largest and smallest numbers we could rolling dice. We then represented the numbers in numerical, expanded and base ten forms.
We are getting very excited for the winter break. We looked at a cozy family room decorated for the holidays & imagined ourselves in that space. We used our 5 senses to describe being there.

We did some holiday guided drawing.

Dec 2 - 6

In room 3 and 4 we are counting down the days til Christmas break. Everyday we get to pop a balloon to reveal a fun activity to celebrate getting one day closer to the holidays.

In science we learnt about how to highlight key information we read in nonfiction books. We did some research into liquids and states of matter while practicing how to take jot notes.

In social we learnt about the Nunavut flag.
It has a red inuksuk—a traditional Inuit land marker—and a blue star, which represents the Niqirtsuituq, the North Star, and the leadership of elders in the community.
The colours blue and gold were selected to represent the riches of land, sea, and sky, while red is used to represent Canada as a whole.

Teacher's Pet was here on Thursday to teach us more about Ted Harrison and his art.
Students noticed: - Natural forms are related to the environment
                             - Natural forms have different surface qualities in colour, texture and tone
                             - Natural forms display patterns and make patterns
                             - All aspects of an artwork contribute to the story it tells
